Please No Comments About Authenticity Unless you worked at the Georgia MACON ARSENAL which mainly used prisoners to manufacture. Not even the citizens of Macon Georgia knew this factory existed until announced by the city of Macon between 2010 – 2014. MACON ARSENAL was set up as a weapons facility having laboratories and testing fields supplying every Mom and Pop Confederate stores extending to Tennessee. ARSENAL GEORGIA 1862 – 1865 The Last Standing Confederate Factory, Union Taken. A Perfect Example of a Highly Rare Confederate Civil War Sword Untouched.. >>> This sword has been in my family since the Civil War direct from Georgia. There were no copies-replica’s; otherwise you would find more then 1 or 2 on the net. I have only 1 of 2 of these rare swords I’ve ever encountered. All these years blocks from the MACON ARSENAL not even citizens of that city knew the arsenal existed until the late 2000 when shown on the History Channel. The citizens of Macon Georgia were standing 2 blocks from where MACON ARSENAL was in operation during the Civil War from 1862 to 1865 when the Union found the factory and took it over. This factory manufactured all weapons but in very small amounts weekly. You can find on YouTube more details of the City recognizing the MACON ARSENAL factory with a monument while citizens bring some of their revolvers, rifles, swords, and Bowie knives to the recognition of this historical factory not many knew about including the Union until 1865. Slowly the Confederates turned to government run facilities. One of those Arsenal was established at Macon, Georgia. As with similar facilities at Columbus, Georgia, the Confederates acquired a private foundry to establish Macon Arsenal. In this case, the Confederate Army rented the Findlay Iron Works from brothers James N. For rent of Findlay Iron Works used as Macon Arsenal. In the summer of 1862, Cuyler made arrangements to produce 6-pdr guns and 12-pdr howitzers (both bronze and iron). He also sought plans for 3-inch rifles. The foundry may have produced samples of these weapons, but none are documented or survive today. By the fall of 1862, Macon Arsenal shifted plans towards the production of 12-pdr Napoleons along with 10- and 20-pdr Parrott rifles. When General Sherman began is March to the Sea, his right wing feinted towards Macon, but left the city untouched. But the facilities fell to General Wilsons raiders in April 1865. “100% Original Condition with a Confederate Sword and Scabbard with both in beautiful original condition” This sword shows matching even type set, a thicker rough guard, and soldered scabbard rings with its original scabbard. I have located only one other in my lifetime that matched including several Bowie knives with the same type set. You can find everything about this sword in history books including on the net. This factory manufactured many items from Swords, Bowie knives, Rifles, Revolvers, Cannons, and more. I do keep on all my swords including other antiquities a very light natural non build up oil placed in a non humid controlled environment.
