1920s Navajo Squash Blossom Necklace Bisbee Turquoise Hand Constructed Stamped
WHAT IS GREAT ABOUT IT: an exceptional and rare example of a Navajo Native American early squash blossom necklace, which is entirely hand constructed and very beautiful. It would date as early as the 1920s and is one of the nicest I’ve ever seen. It’s carefully designed and executed with the most magnificent very large globular beads, all with wonderful crinkles, exhibiting its extreme age proudly. Smaller beads of the same sort are used to make the sixteen generously flared blossoms and a single blossom that is used for the upraised crest on the Naja. That Naja, of concentric open circles with arrowhead shaped terminals, is all hand stamped with crescents and with chevrons at the terminals and hand cut with an open design (so that your fabric shows through and it matches what you wear), and sports a compellingly beautiful highly dimensional natural Bisbee stone. The necklace does not open at the neck; it goes over the head, and it’s strung on fine foxtail which is the strongest and most flexible option. Usually when the blossoms are on a single strand they might turn when worn but for some reason this necklace conforms to the body and is stable. The blossoms almost never twist on me and I’ve been wearing it a lot. I think this necklace is a masterpiece of elegance and if times were different I would not sell it at all. CONDITION: excellent vintage, wearable and collectible. MEASUREMENTS: end to end c. 24 hanging length c. 14.5 naja 3-7/8 high x 2-3/16″ wide with the crest, and 2-3/16″ high x 2-3/16″ w without the crest size of beads 5/8″ wide size of blossoms: 1-1/2″ x 1/2″ weight 162.26grams stone is Bisbee measuring c. 3/4″ x 3/8″ with great height not marked for metal content which is usual, but it’s coin at. 900 or sterling at. 925, feels like sterling not signed by the artist of course, a masterpiece early Navajo necklace dating to the 1920s. SUMMARY: This is an aesthetic treat of a very early top quality necklace that is as beautiful as they come.
