Very nice example of the earliest version of the 671 Turbine locomotive manufactured by Lionel in 1946 with the following unique features. Hidden Directional Control in Cab. No E-unit lever protruding through boiler casting. My research indicates that this is the earliest version of the 671 and is somewhat rare. Later versions apparently had heater elements to produce smoke, slant-mounted Precision Motors, red and gold decals on the boiler, and E-units installed in the boiler. This version of the 671 has jacks on the Atomic Motor plate in the cab to control direction. I replaced the smoke bulb, which is working very well as you can see in the first photo. Otherwise, I have done nothing to clean or service this locomotive. I would rate its condition as Excellent, but please examine the high resolution photos and judge for yourself. The cosmetic appearance will improve further with a good dusting and cleaning. I did a short track test and it ran well. However, as with most vintage model trains, you should give it a thorough cleaning and lubrication prior to running it on your layout. Except for the smoke bulb, it.
