This is a rare Gibson ES-340 with the original Patent Applied for Pickups (stamped into the metal)–the Gibson Dater Project dates this to 1970–72 but the pickups are from 1969 and with the volute i believe this is a 1970 model. I’ve got 3 other 335s so don’t need to keep this which is why i’m putting it up for sale. It is essentially a 335 with according to the Gibson catalogue a few upgrades–it has a brazilian rosewood fretboard and a long tenon neck joint–the board is in excellent shape as are the frets–the nibs on the frets are visible down the neck but not so much higher up–it was either partially refretted or they’ve worn down. Cosmetically it is a stunner–it has a really beautiful checking pattern–like a custom shop relic especially the neck but it’s all under the nitro–it’s exceptionally smooth everywhere and the neck is a dream to play–the patent applied for pups are of course legendary and these are no exception–the guitar was completely gone over by my luthier prior to sale–cleaned and polished with new strings and set up for my preferences. The case is road worn with the tolex off in places and the wood exposed but all the latches work as they should and there’s no bad odors inside–the inside is in better than expected condition given the ruggedness outside–the inside pocket works but the tab for lifting it is gone. So when all is said and done you have an awesome 340 masquerading as a 335 in perfect playing condition.
