THE STERLING IS INTERSPERSED WITH 14K GOLD ACCENTS, GIVING IT REAL EYE CATCHING LIFE! SIGNED WITH ONE OF HIS OLDEST SIGNATURES–Tc SINGER. THE “c” DENOTES A CRESCENT MOON, A PEYOTE SYMBOL THAT HE USED EARLY IN HIS CAREER. IT WEIGHS 55 GRAMS OR 1.9 OUNCES. PIECE IS 6″ HIGH INCLUDING BALE, 1 AND 1/4″ WIDE AT WIDEST POINT. The Shalakos are ZUNI katchinas, messengers between the spirit world and our own. They are the spirit figures of the Zuni pantheon who mediate between humanity and the gods of rain and prosperity, the principal Zuni deities. The word means rain bringer in the Zuni language. Remember, the Zuni are a desert peoplerain is a powerful force in their culture. THE SHALAKO CEREMONY IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL IN THE ZUNI CULTURE. The Shalakos come to the human realm to collect the peoples prayers and take them back to the rainmakers at the end of the ceremony, thus connecting the mortal world to the spirit realm. IT IS A TEDIOUS PROCESS USING TWO DIFFERENT LAYERS OF STERLING, METICULOUSLY CUTTING THE DESIGN IN THE TOP LAYER OF METAL, THEN FILING AND SMOOTHING IT. A LOT OF WORK! TOMMY WAS A REAL MASTER AND HIS WORK IS VERY HIGH QUALITY. SOME OF THE NEWER PIECES ARE NOT THE SAME QUALITY WORKMANSHIP NOR IS THE STERLING AS HEAVY A GUAGE.
