Southwestern Native American Indian turquoise Sterling silver repousse, stamped cuff bracelet, stamped STERLING. This design was made famous by Bell Tradiing Post, a shop founded by Jack Michelson and wife, in 1935, and specialized in the sale of Native American jewelry and artifacts to tourists in the Albuquerque, New Mexico, and other locations in the Southwestern region. Back in the 1930s, just like Fred Harvey, Bell Trading Post began using machines during the Great Depression to speed up the crafting process. They hired Native Americans to design, and make their pieces. Some versions of this cuff are made of nickel silver, and of much lesser value. This cuff is Sterling silver and is adorned with stones, a slightly different design from the more common and cheaper version all-nickel cuff. This outstanding bracelet showcases 8 teal colored stones, nicely polished and set in smooth bezels framing the swirled repousse sun design. The stones have little repousse hogan buttons in between them. The main design is adorned with Native American motif stamp work all around, down to the terminals, along with a repousse leaf on both sides of the shank. The stones sit on a single band shank with a silver rope border. This piece weighs approximately 48 grams, it’s 1 7/8″ wide, and measures just over 5 3/8″ around the inside, end to end. Add 1 1/8 for the gap. Other sellers have mentioned that this design is from the 1940s or 50s, but we cannot verify it as this cuff is not marked. These were made by Native Americans or whoever he could get to man the presses. Bell Trading Post photo is from the Albuquerque Museum Photo Archives. Thank you for supporting authentic Native American art. Additional notes: These were made by machine, most likely operated by Native Americans. All measurements are approximations. Please measure your wrist, décolletage, finger, and waist, or use an old bracelet, necklace, bolo tie, belt, and so on, to determine your size.
