FRONT SEAM, FIXED BALE w/ LINER. For your consideration is a very nice World War Two US Military M-1 Helmet, with Fixed Bales and a Front Seam. The helmet has the original chinstrap straps that are of OD#3 Khaki color and has a stamp inside clearly marked 556B which indicates it was made during World War Two. Given that it is also Fixed Bale with a Front Seam dates it to no later than. The helmet does have two stress cracks forming on the outside of the shell, so this item is strictly meant for a collector, NOT for re-enactors. The helmet also has a small dent in the top of the helmet where it appears the soldier had something impact the helmet perhaps while he was wearing it. The dent is minor and hardly noticeable, unless looking at the helmet from a certain angle. The liner is in near perfect condition but has some noticeable wear, especially in the sweatband and the leather chinstrap which has United Carr rivets securing the leather to the clasps and buckle. Both the leather chinstrap and sweatband are showing signs of their age and it is recommended this item be used as part of a collection and not worn. As this is a near perfect set and in one piece, it should be considered a nice find and a great addition to any collection.
