Two 1 cent George Washington stamps in an excellent condition. Dated June 1st, 1919 (Sunday) Reading, Pennsylvania. Today those cancellation machines do not run on Sunday or Holidays. The dates are not entered into their computers on those days. The postcard was sent during what’s called The Red Summer which refers to the summer and early autumn of 1919, which was marked by hundreds of deaths and higher casualties across the United States, as a result of racial riots that occurred in more than three dozen cities and one rural county. Also the Treaty of Versailles, The First World War only ended in the series of conferences that took place in the Palace of Versailles around the summer of1919.
