Rare Miss-stamped 1918 US P1917 P17 Remington Bayonet 2nd Pattern Hanger Scabbard. FREE POST AUSTRALIA WIDE – 1 DAY DISPATCH SERVICE. # The law prohibits the sale to anyone under the age of 18. You are viewing an extremely rare miss-stamped Antique WWI US Remington M1917 Bayonet with leather-bound 2nd pattern Scabbard with integral Wire Belt Hanger. This American WW1 1917 Pattern bayonet was made by Remington in 1918. At the beginning of the year, Remington mistakenly used the manufacture date, 1918 in place of the pattern designation. This error was soon rectified and as such the existing 1918 stamped Remington P17 bayonets are quite scarce. These Sword bayonets were designed for use on the. Rifle Model of 1917. The M1917 rifle was nearly identical to the British Pattern 1913 rifle, so was often referred to as the Enfield. This bayonet was also used with U. Army combat shotguns (trench guns), serving into the 1980s. The M1917 bayonet was identical to the British Pattern 1913 bayonet, except for the U. The vertical grooves in the grip scales differentiated this bayonet from the British Pattern 1907 bayonet, to avoid confusion in British service. The M1917 sword bayonet was first used during WW1 by American soldiers on the Western Front, The U. Continued to use the WW1 made M1917 bayonets for WW2 as they had large stockpiles left and continued use into the 1980s. New Trench Guns issued were still designed to be able to use the old M1917 bayonet. The M1917 bayonet design was based on the British P1907 bayonet and is identical to the British Pattern 1913 & 1907 bayonet, except for the U. Markings and the vertical grooves in the grip scales, to differentiate this bayonet from the British Pattern to avoid confusion. This example was made by the Remington Arms Co. Ilion, New York, USA. The pommel, crosspiece, and ricasso are blued, the blade is parkerized. The leather scabbard is the second pattern, where the M1910 belt hanger was integral to the locket. The scabbard body was painted green. British scabbards had a frog stud. This has “GF inside an oval” stamped on the locket which identifies the maker, as the General Fireproofing Co. # The makers and inspection marks are. RICASSO: (Right): “Eagle Head, Ordnance Bomb” & “24” over “US” (Left): “1918” over “Remington” inside a circle. SCABBARD: LOCKET: “CF within an oval” General Fireproofing Co.
