This is the ultimate jazz ride cymbal. Weight is about 3132g. Terrific weight for a two-footer, nicely distributed, wobbles all over. Many people immediately think K when we talk jazz, but tons of amazing jazz recordings were made with A. ZILDJIAN cymbals, like this one! This is a Hartrick type II large stamp ride from the mid 1950’s. There are no cracks, not even spider cracks at the mounting hole, nothing along the edges either -she’s solid! She does however boast gobs of character by way of casting flaws, hand hammering, dings and scratches. Please keep in mind the close-ups exaggerate these cosmetic issues. This cymbal has withstood the test of time, on the road no doubt, and sounds absolutely fantastic. Below is a link to the sound file on YouTube. There’s something magical about a good, old A. Zildjian ride, and this one has it in spades! Lots of folks try to market rides as being crashable, but this is the real-deal. Nice medium-light ride, versatile -gives a range of different sounds from medium to bright depending on stick choice. Tons of low end when you want it. Articulate enough and with a beautiful wash all around. The bell is very nice and clear. Crashes like a dream for such a massive pie. Every crash you hear in the sound file is this cymbal. I had this one my jazz bop kit for a while, which has an 18 kick drum, just this, a left side ride and some hats and the look was so cool with this two foot cymbal anchoring the whole thing.
