For your consideration is a US Stamp Scott #8A, Type IIIa Imperforate Blue, Position 58R4; F Relief from Plate #4, issued 1857. The stamp is genuine & used. Nicely centered w/ good margins!! Stamp is accompanied by a Doporto Franklin Plating Archive Certificate which states: Genuine, United States 1c 1851, United States, Scott 8A, Type IIIa, Black NEW YORK dated APR 28, 1857 PAID CDS Cancel. F Relief from Plate 4, Position 58R4. Please note that the cert reads the issue date is 1851; which is incorrect. Plate #1 stamps were issued 1851; Plate #4 stamps were issued April 1857. You would think someone that plates these stamps could get the issue dates right.. There looks to be a tiny thin spot & a small amount of trivial staining on the back; neither detract from the beauty of the front. Plate 4 stamps were typically printed on poor quality paper to begin with. The cancel is also very early; APR 28, 1857. According to Scott Cat. The earliest known usage is April 4, 1857; which would put this stamp only 24 days after the earliest know use!! Nice early printing; clearly showing plating marks & bruises! Great centering & ample margins for the issue, w/ nice, clear CDS cancel. F Relief stamps from Plate #4 are quite scarce(#19 Type 1a & some #19b Type1c, also come from these F relief rows). Please look at photos provided & use your own judgement on what the stamp is worth to you. >Check out my other stamp listings, I will be listing some good extras I have.
