For sale is a vintage marking hammer. I think this is an arsenal inspectors acceptance stamp for an M1 Garand, used at the Springfield Mass. Arsenal, to mark arms that have passed inspection. In my research I found that these were primarily used between 1952 and was retired in 1956. It is marked “MS 15474″ and has a partial sticker on the handle. The sticker is marked “Stamp Hammer” “1 EA” “5/6″ and a number at the top that I cannot read. It has 2 heads (round and square) with stamps on them with three stars over an eagle holding arrows. Stamps both measure about 3/4 in. The hammer is in excellent condition and the stamps are very nice. The handle was a slight bit loose when I got it but seems to have tightened up a bit. See pictures for details on condition. The item “Vintage M1 GARAND Military LOG MARKING Hammer LOGGER TIMBER BRANDING STAMPING” is in sale since Tuesday, April 20, 2021.
