WW2 Robeson (R. C. CO) U. S. M-3 TRENCH KNIFE. Unissued One-of-a-kind Stamping
But what this knife appears to be to my “layman” eyes is an original, never issued, never sharpened, never carried WW2 era Robeson M-3 with nearly 100% or its original bluing. And if that’s not enough to make a scarce knife rare, this knife MAY be one-of-a-kind because of its “double stamping error” on the blade (see photos). You may be able see some black grease on the blade and on the sheath in places. I don’t know if this is the original cosmoline that came on the knife, or if the prior, prior owner had greased the knife before it went into storage 40+ years ago (according to what I have been told). There was actually quite a bit more grease on the blade, but I felt that in order to see the condition of the blade and its edge I needed to clean some of it off. I did so by gently wiping with a rag, using no water or any other cleaning materials. The knife also displays the “crossed cannons” on the guard.
