WWI Vintage Remington M1917 Bayonet For Enfield Rifles and Trenchgun. The 1918 I’m unsure about as it seems quite rare, but this bayonet is identical and MUST be an M1917. Condition is Used but it appears to be quite clean, probably polished. Included is the canvas & leather sheath. A few standard Remington manufactured Bayonets can be found dated 1918 instead of 1917 – this is one of the rare ones. It is thought that Remington changed the marking die in early 1918 to reflect date of manufacture – which was common on the Model 1905 Springfield Bayonets. They were quickly ordered to changed back to the 1917 markings – to reflect the Model of 1917 rifle – not date of manufacture. These 1918 dated bayonets are rare and hard to find – can’t help but increase in value in the future, especially when their rarity is more widely known. — I found this note on another sellers listing while searching for the answer to the 1917/1918 conundrum… I cannot vouch for this information, but it is definitely of interest and something to be considered.
